United Steelworkers Local 5890

The Executive members from USW Locals 5890 and 6673, along with Staff Representatives Patrick Veinot and Jeff Kallichuk, met all day in Calgary on September 9, 2026, with Orion Steel CEO Doug Mathews, COO Brad Forster, and CHRO Dan Krug.
The company presented the Union with a state-of-the-business update, which included information on capital expenditure projects, safety, and current orders. The Capitol investments discussed for both locations we view as a positive.
Although Regina Tubular may experience a slower period over the next couple of months, the long-term outlook remains promising. Manpower levels and order volumes appear positive for both locations.
Both Locals also raised common issues that require the company’s attention, primarily our concerns identified at both locations were Payroll and Human Resources.
Overall, we feel it was a positive and productive meeting, with a commitment from the company to continue meeting with the Union and discussing outstanding issues
We will continue to work with the company to address these issues and will keep members informed as further information becomes available.
