Anti-Harassment Committee
The local is looking for members that would have an interest in taking anti-harassment workplace training through the Steelworkers. This course will provide you with important tools to guide co-workers to understand why harassment occurs, why it’s harmful and ensure that it doesn’t happen. You will also learn how to investigate complaints and mediate incidents that may arise among workers. If you would like to submit your name for training please do so by contacting Denise at the Union office (306) 569-9663.

First quarter profit sharing results were released by the company this morning. The result is a payout amount of $0.42 per eligible hour.

Passing of Johnny Barron
Johnny Barron passed away suddenly on Sunday April 22.
Johnny as he was known to just about everyone who knew him put over 30 years in at IPSCO as a machinist in the Steel Division. He was always willing to lighten up the day with a joke.
We are saddened by his passing.
As more information becomes available regarding funeral arrangements it will be posted here.

Cam Broten was elected as the new NDP leader today at the Saskatchewan NDP leadership 
convention. Cam was the candidate that the USW in Saskatchewan supported .
Congratulations Cam. The Steel Workers look forward to supporting you and the NDP in the next provincial election.
Profit Sharing/C.O.L.A Announcement
Evraz has released the 2012 4th quarter Profit Sharing amount this morning at $1.06 per eligible hour. Direct deposit to bank accounts will happen March 1st, 2013.
C.O.L.A numbers have also been released and adjusted to $0.54 per straight time hour worked. A decrease from $0.75.
As always this Local strives to keep the membership informed promptly and will continue to post the most current information we receive.

Steelworkers Family Picnic
Local 5890 along with Local 5917, SOAR Chapter 19 and the South Sask. Area Council of the USW is planning a picnic! We are currently seeking volunteers to help with this event filled afternoon of food, fun and activities for all Steelworkers active or retired and your family. This will take place on June 23rd, 2013 at a site to be announced at a later date. The involvement and contribution of our members time will make this an enjoyable day for everyone so step up and submit your name to help out. You can do this by contacting Corey Liebrecht or Vasco D’Almedia.
